Secondary School
All pupils in Forms 1 & 2 follow a standard curriculum which includes
the following subjects:-
For Greek Cypriots, who speak Greek as a native tongue, Modern Greek is a compulsory subject up to and including GCE A level. Greek for Foreigners is available up to Form 3. The computer room houses 25 networked computers with broadband access to the Internet as well as an interactive white board. Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is taught at all levels and covers word processing, databases, spreadsheets, graphics, desktop publishing and communications to various depths according to age-group. In Form 3 the curriculum remains essentially the same, but at this stage Science is taught in separate modules of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. In the third term of Form 3, pupils, with the help of their teachers and the involvement of their parents, choose their IGCSE and GCSE options.
Pupils begin IGCSE/GCSE courses in Form 4 and sit the external examination at the end of Form 5. We offer the following subjects:
We have recently moved over from O level to IGCSE in most subjects, the exceptions being Music, Drama, Art and PE where we prepare pupils for GCSE. Please note that, for university matriculation purposes, O levels, IGCSE and GCSE are considered equivalent. The school is a registered centre for Edexcel (London) and Cambridge International Examinations boards.
In Form 4 pupils may also opt to study Spanish or German which are available as two-year courses from beginners to IGCSE.
Native speakers of Greek sit Modern Greek O level at the end of Form 4 and Modern Greek A level at the end of Form 5.
We expect pupils to have achieved at least five IGCSE/GCSE passes to qualify for progression into the 6th Form and they should have gained grade B passes at IGCSE/GCSE in the subjects they choose to study at A level.
The following subjects are offered at A level:
External examination results from
recent years.
Applications are made through the school and are closely supervised by the Headmaster who acts as Academic Referee. The school uses the UCAS online "apply" system.
Teachers in the Primary section hold a BEd degree or Teaching Certificate for the relevant age range.
Thus, our teachers would be fully qualified to teach in the UK according to the requirements of the DfES (Department for Education and Skills). Indeed, the majority of them have experience of teaching in the UK or other UK curriculum schools worldwide.
